Our Story!

We are three Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 37034 which is located in Brunswick, Maryland. We created the Bat House to complete our bronze award. A bronze award is the third highest award in Girl Scouts that asks girls to team up and help make their community a better place to live by completing a sustainable project.

For our project, we came up with a few ideas including a bee hotel, upgrading latrines at a Girl Scout camp, no sew blankets for the hospital and a bat house. We voted and decided on the bat house.

Next, we researched bats, how to build a bat house, where to put our bat house, and how to mount it. Then, we walked around Brunswick looking for the perfect place and sent emails to the businesses that looked promising. Smoketown Brewing agreed to let us mount our bat box on the side of their building. We built our bat house and they mounted it on the building.

We hope bats will come to stay in the bat house and that people will learn more about bats and not be afraid of them as a result of this website and information available at Smoketown Brewing that we created.
